Xbox teams up with Uber to offer free supercar taxis in Sydney for NRL grand final weekend
Xbox Australia has teamed up with taxi app Uber to provide NRL fans with free luxury transport to this weekend’s grand final in Sydney, in a promotion for new game Forza Horizon 2.
A Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari 458 Italia and Nissan GT-R kitted emblazoned with the game’s logo are among the cats roaming the streets of Sydney offering free rides to people booking them via the Uber app from Friday until Sunday evening, using the code ‘UBERFORZA’ to request the cars.
In 2012 computer game maker EA created the ‘Most Wanted Taxi’ to promote the launch of the game Need for Speed, giving free rides to anyone who could hail it in Sydney that week.
How to get a free ride:
Interesting to see brands teaming up with other brands and bypassing agencies, publishers etc. Brave new world.
Also interesting to see if Xbox stumps up for the $121,000 fine that an illegal service like Uber attracts for each and every car trip it makes.
You can bet the RMS are watching!
Oh, and each passenger is liable for a $2,200 fine for using it.
Brave (and must be very rich) new sponsor!
Tom – it was through the agency.
Great idea, however there was a roadblock in the app for new new users, had to input their credit card details….
