York Butter Factory’s ‘wayward’ pussy patrol
Until this afternoon, Dr Mumbo has never heard of York Butter Factory, “Melbourne’s newest tech coworking space”.
Now he has, thanks to this tweet:
Which was followed, after a breath of social media outrage on the chauvinism of the tech scene, by this tweet:
And indeed by the organisation’s website site going down.
It’s always nice to see a new brand trend on Twitter.
Just to let you know, the website has been down for a few days due to a DDoS attack on the hosting server – it has nothing to do with this tweet.
Now on that note, I work from York Butter Factory and know most of the people there and I can say that this awful tweet definitely does not represent the actual culture at York Butter.

One tweet doesn’t represent the startup community at York Butter Factory (YBF) and the good work the people behind York Butter have done in Melbourne to build the ecosystem. The guys at YBF have also organised angel investment dinners for startups, invested in Australian startups, and have hosted many Melbourne Silicon Beach events.
Like Diesel, I’ve previously from YBF for several months and still drop by from time to time. Its a great space, the people there are awesome and its an amazing community. If you really want to see what it is like, drop in and say hello and meet the people there.

the only thing worse than a ill-thought through, juvenile but ultimately harmless tweet is the mass confected outrage from the noisy few. Brains need to be better connected to keyboards on both sides.

What beezlebub said! You would think that YBF declared themselves to be a Nazi homophobic sect that bites the legs of wheel chair bound children if the outrage expressed to date was actually commensurate to the crime! I do NOT condone it (yes it was silly) but see it for what it really is, insignificant! Keep it real people.
