930,000 look inside Ten’s Can of Worms
Ten’s Can of Worms aiming to “get Australia talking” debuted last night with an audience of 930,000 coming second in its time slot behind Seven’s The Amazing Race Australia.
The show, hosted by Ian “Dicko” Diskson, questioned a panel including former AFL footballer Jason Akermanis, comedienne George McEncroe and The Chaser’s Craig Reuccassel on political correctness.

Questions posed included – Is it offensive to call someone a bogan?; You’re walking down the street, there’s no one around, you find in rolled-up used notes, $5,000, do you hand it in? and would you be freaked out if your wife had slept with 50 more people than you?
Can Of Worms was the worst show I have seen in years, if not the worst. I can imagine the Channel Ten producers: “hmmm how about a show appealing to every bogan in Australia! Bingo! Can of Worms!” I bet the uber educated Craig Reucassel is cringing today.

It was poor all right – very disappointing. The opening segment was particularly weak, the panel did the show no favours, and it was edited by a blindfolded monkey with a machete. Dicko needs a few more flying hours under his belt before being allowed to go solo too, but I think he’ll probably be fine once he gets into it.
Given that Zupruder’s been working on this for months I can only conclude that network interference might be to blame? Just a guess. Either that or the very first pilot was put to air by mistake…
I did like the light up chairs however…
When I first heard about Can Of Worms I was excited by the idea of a Q&A style program made with the edgy Ten feel (Good News Week style). But the show ended up being trivial and labored. Come on “what does a bogan mean to me?”! Let’s leave the production of Australian opinion fueled programming to the ABC and SBS.. NEXT!
I just thought it was odd to have two guests, Craig R and the woman, who are unashamedly politically correct, on there.
Thank goodness for Akermanis (there’s a sentence I never thought I’d type!).
Then again, Denton’s a rusted on lefty from way back, so no surprise, I guess.

I predict the audience for this unfunny snore-fest will drop significantly next week before being cancelled two weeks later.
It was excruciating. I’m just surprised 9 didn’t do it first.
The show’s tagline underscores the problem with so much “issues-based” Australian media: if only the show was designed to get Australia THINKING.
Why is Can of Worms not a Live show? Make it QandA for people who don’t like politics. Making it live would give it a sense of urgency and spontaneity while allowing further ‘debate’ on twitter.
The show started off horribly, the “wrong-o-meter” was a ridiculous segment and it didn’t need to be there because the show ran overtime anyway. By the time they were discussing actual issues and we discovered that Jason Akermanis has some brain cells, it improved.
Q and A without a Carbon tax discussion- could have some legs. I did fine the first ep really boring and laboured however and switched to the ABC as soon as I could.
Good idea, badly executed.
Surely they could have found some more interesting talent for the first episode.
I found it cringeworthy and flicked over to something more interesting (if “In the night garden” was showing I would have preferred to watch that more intellectual programme) after 5 minutes.
Very poor, and surely will be scrapped in due course. Reminds me of that British Comedian guy (who wrote the Young ones) who tried to launch a programme recently, and bombed big time.
