AAP and Google strike AI news deal

Australian Associated Press (AAP) has announced a multi-year deal with Google that will see its news content used to “enhance responses” in the Gemini app.

This is the first AI-based news deal the tech giant has struck in Australia. AAP is the country’s only independent newswire, and supplies content to hundreds of outlets across Australia.

According to an announcement from the newswire, AAP’s “90-year history of providing primary-source journalism” and its “strong reputation for objectivity” will bolster the value of the content provided through Google’s AI-assistant.
