ABC Radio to launch Double J with presenter Myf Warhurst

Former Triple J presenter Myf Warhurst will be the first presenter to host a show as the ABC rebrands digital station Dig to Double J on April 30.
ABC Radio announced in October, it would rebrand its digital music station Dig Music as Double J to align it with sister station Triple J and win over music listeners in their 30s and 40s who used to listen to Triple J but have since grown out of the station.
Warhurst, who presented a show on Triple J and was a team captain on ABC1 show Spicks and Specks, will host a daily music show from 11am to 3pm on weekdays on Double J.
The name is a brand-trashing exercise, & the whole platform seems like a retirement plan for Richard Kingsmill et al.

I thought Triple-J was for people in their 30s and 40s who had grown out of the Triple-J of the nineties. Sure, they don’t play Courtney Love any more, but Richard Kingsmill’s old, tired playlist just screams “aging genXer who thinks he’s still cool because he likes Sarah Blasko.”
Clever move, I reckon – there must be a big audience out there who are too old for Triple J but who still want to be introduced to relevant new music. The name clearly shows the association with Triple j and works its heritage – well done!

As for brand trashing, JJJ was originally called Double Jay back in the 70s, so it’s more a heritage exercise, albeit a slightly flimsy one.
Dig music started as an (almost) DJ free music station. Why would I want to listen to a DJ… nothing personal Myf or whoever? Oh well there are alternatives.
Good: somewhere to listen to Joy Division again…….
It’s not that bad, and might just work. You miserable lot are just getting old and grumpy…have a nap then cheer up.
Cheer up you bunch of haters. I think it’s a great move – I still listen to Xan on JJJ, but find the other presenters too young for me – i’m looking forward to the launch. I’m over 40, female and a ‘mum’, and thrilled beyond words that I’ll have an interesting option. Not all middle aged folks want easy listening.
Triple J seems to play the same sort of music (by different people, admittedly) that it did 20 years ago anyway….
Does it really matter what they launch or who they launch it with. Just enjoy the music and to the person who said us 30+’s just want to be cool. Why can’t older people enjoy new music, just because we’re old doesn’t mean we have to start liking Liberace. Enjoy the music or shut up, cos last time I looked this was a free country.
This is why I love Rdio (and I’m sure Spotify is just as good): you can listen to curated Triple J playlists without the moronic Triple J presenters. I find it hard to believe I am the same species as Triple J presenters. So moronic.
A great idea that seems to be doomed to be let down by poor execution again. Myf Warhurst? Possibly the dullest presenter they could have considered. It’s the tired old brigade of JJJ chicks giving themselves a last gasp at being relevant.
