ADMA boss: Labor telephone campaign will hurt marketers
The boss of the direct marketing industry’s trade body has spoken out against plans by Labor to blitz voters with campaigning phone calls in the run up to the election.
Unlike brands, political parties are exempt from respecting the requirements of the Do Not Call register which allows consumers to state that they do not wish to receive marketing phone calls.
Jodie Sangster, CEO of the Association for Data-driven Marketing & Advertising (ADMA), Jodie Sangster said the impact would be on marketers who use telephone marketing responsibly.
What absolute tosh. ADMA struggling for relevancy makes an ambit claim which will never be considered. Labor has been doing these calls since they used them to beat Jeff Kennett. About half the people love to get the calls, about half don’t. Those people are then ignored, and the undecided ones are the only ones that are pursued. And often those people often feel that they are listened too finally. Often their local concern is escalated to their local MP. I’m so bored of people whinging about the election. We should be proud to have our system. 5 year terms would be good though.

Damn! I won’t have the chance to tell them what I think of them cos I’m in a (very) safe liberal electorate – so I imagine they won’t bother wasting time ringing us. I’d love to unload on them how much I hate their TVCs – particularly the concerned mother who isn’t and the little old lady who is – but SHE GIVES ME THE SHITS – talk about saturation advertising.
Peoples home phones ring so rarely these days Labor may just get a better hearing based on voters fascination with a redundant technology…if not just for a moment
