Good to see that the switch from Clemenger BBDO to Leo Burnett at the start of the year didn’t make Chrysler do anything crazy like create a budget for its Dodge and Jeep ads.

Worst ads of the year!
Boring cheapskates! Ridiculous!
The cars just lose their brand power and image with cheapo adds like that.
We can has offroaderz.
I actually found this amusing. We’ve all seen a car drive through a million rocky mountain outcrops. It knows you’ve seen it all before so it doesn’t try condescend. No I don’t work for BBDO.
…but you do work for Leo’s?
I agree with Great.
These TVC’s are different than what one has been accustomed to or expects to see in an SUV TVC, so the commercial was differentiated from all others and David Ogilvy did once say, “If it does not sell, then it is not creative”. Lets see how the sales figures look like and then judge the work.
How to kill a brand, stick with a strategy that only talks about how cheap it is, and then think that will make it more attractive! The cheaper many things get (like cars) the more unattractive they become. Just another case of car dealers telling the distributor how to sell! Pathetic, and sad!
No (real) agency was involved in these ads, certainly could not have charged for concept development – there was none! It’s obviously a sad case of the car dealers telling the distributor what sells, make ’em cheap! The sad fact is we are watching the death of a pretty good brand. When will they get the fact that cheap doesn’t always make things more attractive, sometimes the reverse is true! Louai must certainly work at Leo’s or Jeep! If not Louai should apply for a job at either.
Thanks Mike for sharing your thoughts and suggestions. 1- I do not think a single ad (or TVC) could ever build or destroy a global brand such as Jeep. 2- I know enough about the brand not only because I used to work for Bozell Worldwide in the early 1990’s (Chryslers agency) but also because since then I have had the pleasure of owning three different Jeep models, last of which is the Sahara Unlimited (which I still own in addition to my Porsche). 3- As the president of the IAA Kuwait chapter and as the Managing Partner at an internationally recognized agency I do not think it would be appropriate or practical to apply at a job at the far end of the globe, as it would be a conflict of interest (owning an agency which handles the Porsche automotive account) I am sure you see the big picture Mike. 4- Most importantly is that fact that there is a post on such a reputable site as well as a healthy debate by Professionals such as yourself on these TVC’s as further indication that they are differentiated than one would expect. Well done whomever did this.
I’ve not got a problem with these ads.
They’re different with an element of wit. Clearly it’s an ad defined by its tone of voice.
Not every car ad needs to be an epic. Deal with it.
