Age apologises over Israel column

Melbourne-based newspaper The Age is at the centre of a row over its publication of a column at the weekend about Israel’s activities in Gaza which has been accused of straying into anti-semitism.

The newspaper published an apology today, saying the column had been “published in error”. A much fuller account of the debacle appears on Crikey’s The Content Makers blog today.

This is the latest example of a daily newspaper facing a backlash over an opinion column published during the conflict. Earlier this month, the Dubai-based Gulf News faced international ridicule after printing a column that attempted to deny the holocaust. It was later cliamed that this had also been a mistake.
