Alice in Wonderland

Tim Burton's Alice in WonderlandWe have passes for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, starring Aussie actress Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.

This film is based on Lewis Carroll’s two Alice novels, combining elements of both to create a ‘new’ story in which Alice is a young woman bored with the formality and predictability of her Victorian world. Facing a marriage proposal, she falls down a rabbit hole and finds herself in Wonderland, where the famous White Rabbit, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, and the Mad Hatter speculate if she is indeed ‘the Alice’ that is destined to slay the Red Queen’s Jabberwocky.

Pay no attention to bitter British film ‘critics’; this is one exciting 3D journey that offers terrific performances from Bonham Carter – with a delicious rendition of the character’s ‘Off with her head!” line – and the voice cast (including Alan Rickman, Christopher Lee and Matt Lucas), and launches Wasikowska as Hollywood’s next big star.

Depp has been the centre of attention since Disney announced his participation, and particularly since they released the first photos of him as the Hatter. He takes the orange-haired character beyond what any previous incarnation has done before, but the intention to create another extravagant and iconic character like Captain Jack Sparrow is so transparent that it ultimately fails.
