Are Media moves further into video podcasts with new role
Rachel Fountain will lead Are Media's charge into the video podcasting world
Are Media has appointed Rachel Fountain to the newly created role of head of vodcasts, where she is tasked with “accelerating the company’s expansion into premium video-led storytelling”.
Fountain spent 13 years at the ABC as a radio and podcast producer, and more recently worked at News Corp, where she was executive producer of the podcast Dear Rachelle.
Her hiring is another clear indication that Are Media is increasing its focus on the podcasting space, following the recent investment into purpose-built facilities at its Sydney offices, and a distribution deal with ARN’s iHeart.
Are Media has recently launched four podcasts off the back of its successful print titles: You’re Gonna Want to Hear This (Marie Claire), The Edit (Home Beautiful), Group Chat (Who), and Love Stories (The Australian Women’s Weekly). Fountain will lead the development and production of new shows linked to other titles in the Are Media portfolio. She will report to the incoming CEO Sally Eagle, who starts this month.
“Rachel brings a deep understanding of content and a strong track record across audio and video,” Eagle said in a media release announcing the role.
“She knows how to shape formats that connect with audiences, and is well placed to lead this next phase of growth for Are Media. We’re seeing a strong response to our expanding slate of programming from both audiences and commercial partners, and we look forward to building on that momentum.”
Fountain’s appointment is effective immediately.
