ARN boss: We were complacent
The boss of the Australian Radio Network’s programming has said that the company previously displayed “a lot of complacency” – and that management and presenters are now more accountable for their performance.
ARN’s main networks are Mix and Classic Hits, which is branded as WSFM in Sydney.
Talking on the Mumbrellcast, ARN’s national content manager Duncan Campbell said:
We’ll see – we’ll see! They only have one goodish station in Sydney. The the Mix breakfast show…..Ha!
We’ll see – we’ll see! They only have one goodish station in Sydney. Then there’s the Mix breakfast show…..Ha!
Has all the dead wood gone?
It is great that Mix in Sydney are once again aiming at an over 30s female skewed music audience. Last year no one really aimed at this group in Sydney.
ARN radio shows do have the cheapest and nastiest sweepers between songs. A voice recoding of someone saying “101.7 WSFM” must take the ARN team about 2 minutes to make. At least the music hits its target for Mix and WS.
The MIX 106FIVE breakfast is:
5% news
15% ads
40% music
40% inane commentary and fake laughs.
Seriously, can someone who is programming / producing FM breakfast or drive radio shows realise:
– not every breakfast show has to be a duo or trio. Remember Uncle Doug, Ian McRae or even Rick Melbourne? Solo shows can work. Do work.
– stop talent fake laughing at every remotely amusing comment they make.
If they want to improve Mix, put Amanda and Jonesy on there!!!!
Jonesy and Amanda are great on WS FM !
Commercial Radio bosses being complacent? Who’d have thought it?

So how does Mix stand out from the crowd? It’s fairly simple to place most of the other FM stations, but Mix….. what is it? And why should we listen?
Ant & Becks are the best thing ARN have going for them at the moment. They’re like Hamish and Andy but… FUNNY!
