ARN confirms Sydney station change from Mix 106.5 to Kiis 1065
The Australian Radio Network has this morning confirmed it is rebranding the Mix radio network to Kiis as it looks to
“truly dominate” the 25 to 54 demographic.
The news comes a week after the network confirmed it had signed controversial breakfast hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson for the Sydney breakfast slot.
Highlights of the pair’s morning show will be played across the network in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and in Sydney every week night from 6pm, when the new show and station launch on January 20.
ARN’s national content director Duncan Campbell said: “We’re building a station specifically for Sydney that will be energetic, cheeky, fun, and reflect the best that Sydney has to offer.”
The dropping of the decimal point from the frequency in the logo makes it look like an AM station. Also the dropping of the FM identifier Mix-FM used to have. It reminds me of the disastrous “Lite and Easy” fiasco in the 1980s. The cool young crowd regard AM as poison so I can’t see this rebranding of the station attracting a younger demo.
Yes! This is exactly what Sydney needs: another Top 40 station playing Pink and Bon Jovi and ads for Daihatsu Charades! It’s a great name as well – I hope everyone pronounces it to sound like Kyuss.
What’s wrong with KISS??
Oh dear!
@Aussie_Austridge – Don’t forget Nova was branded Nova 969 until recently, and the lack of a decimal point didn’t seem to hurt them.
Well so much for listening to Mix. I guess I’ll just switch across to 2Day FM.
Does anyone think the lips part of the logo look like someone about to give a bj?
The logo looks more like a SUX than a kiss.
By mid 2014 the battle lines would have been drawn, the ad campaigns with market fragmentation rife and history says you will be able to pick the winners and losers of the Luna park merry go round. It will be case of do radio listeners listen to a station or a brand or do they listen to who is on air in a particular session. What brand equity do 2 day have as Mix have none given their parlous ratings and constant changes to line ups over many years. On the other hand WS have a successful breaky line up and overall they are a very formidable competitor. Amanda and Jonesy are not going to hand over listeners they have worked hard to win to K and J.Ask a parent with kids what station they feel most comfortable driving the kids to school,
Umm kissfm.com.au already exists. Two stations with the same name?
@Garry – it’s KIIS, not KISS. The KIIS FM brand originated in Los Angeles and is owned by Clearchannel, 50% partners in this new venture.
Mix was really good until a couple years ago, now they have lost me. I listen to smooth they play better music that is to my taste and easy going. I don’t think kyle and Jackie O will improve ratings for the whole day not just for the morning or 6pm time slot.
We do have trademark laws in this country don’t we ??? No way you will trade under brand KIIS when KISS FM has been trading for over 20 years in this country !! Buy their name or find a new one Yankee smarty pants !! That trademark will not hold up in court !!
Can’t stand Kyle & Jackie O. Have been a faithful listener to MIX for years but wil now be switching to another station. My friends say the same. Such a shame to lose a great radio station.
