ARN confirms Kyle and Jackie O for ‘new station’

Just when you thought you weren’t going to get any more traffic to this site, Mumbo.

Kyle and Jackie o are yesterday’s news. Radio stars don’t travel well.

This is what is called “caught up in your own hype” and having no respect or understanding for an audience. ARN has just alienated what is left of their Mix audience, they have put too much emphasis on the drawing power of Kyle and Jacki O who are at the end of their cycle and will not all follow them. Their announcement was poorly executed with no details online or through social.

My guess is as soon as K&J realize they have joined a prehistorical and lowly resourced juke box, they will call in every day with migraines.

My prediction, smoothfm will now go to No 1 and Nova numer 2

This looks like the late 90’s all over again when Singleton got Alan Jones to move from 2UE to 2GB. 2UE never recovered.

I predict half the audience will follow them to fill the gap left by the lost mix audience.

And ARN will now be left with a huge bill as the clients steer clear of K&J.

Its a good indication that current mix listeners are pissed and any existing K&J fans that are left wont be able to find them

It looks like Sydney radio is being refreshed.

I bet this time next year 2Day and Nova are rating significantly lower than they are now.

One of the most outdated and poorly executed promos I’ve heard. If they think they’re going to have half a chance, they’re going to have to do a lot better than that.

At least don’t copy the Virgin Radio launch promo from ten years ago in the UK

I’ve read this blog with interest through the years about the multitude of clients that would never put their money on Kyle Sandilands shows. Lets hope they continue that common sense.

hahaha – the negative comments here are hilarious – from people who would never have listened to the show. the thing you “marketing” folk have to remember is that 99% of the Australian public are NOT hipsters, that you push your campaigns too (consistently missing the mark) – they are uneducated idiotic bogans who lap this stuff up.

i am not saying its a good thing for the country – but ARN has struck gold and K&JO know that to appeal to sh*t you have to know your sh*t. and to completely rebrand a station to fit the intl audience pull that this show will bring, via iheart and other channels (I would assume kiis) they really have done what they need too – by taking a formulaic show and putting it up against the global audience.

arn has now completely cornered the commercial audience that within three months would have completely moved online to iheart and digital, abandoning local stations in preference for intl’s you can now listen too like KIIS and Z100 – how deliver a FAR superior product offering.

So Mix/Kiis/ARN are just going to directly copy 2day’s format then? There will now be 3 radio stations in Sydney that sound the same. This promo looks, sounds, is just like everything Kyle and Jackie O have done before. Can’t expect an old dog to learn new tricks I suppose.

Was listening to Mix when it was announced – FIVE minutes of the wankiest sound effects ever in a countdown (are they kidding?!!!!) Biggest radio show in the world? Not for long! Mix listeners will be deserting in droves (including myself and my two children, who think Kyle is a tool) and not everyone will follow them from 2Day – epic failure all round. Really hope Sami and Yumi are retained for another timeslot – they are great talent and don’t deserve to be shafted.

SCA is a better company without this team. Culture beats strategy every time, finally we can leave behind their incredibly negative influence.
ARN, you’re in our prayers…

For those who get excited about a brand dumping or not advertising on Kyle & Jackie when at 2Day, plenty of advertisers stepped in to fill the void.

However, now that the 2Day bond is broken it might be the right time to launch a ‘Don’t advertise on Vile Kyle’ campaign. Advertisers are not committed yet, so those who are offended by Mr Sandilands’ shenanigans, now might be the time to act.

Oh and P.S. Sami & Yumi, think you mighta been ‘boned’ 🙁

Considering the ratings that Mix have seen (particularly in Sydney) over the last couple of years, it couldnt get any worse so good on them! It appears what is likely to happy is that Mix will take some of the 2day audience then that’ll make way for SmoothFM & Nova to move forward into number 1 and 2 Sydney FM!

Reasons to avoid Sydney.

So ARN spend what must be close to $6million on talent fees on a 14 year old show that has had steadily declining revenue for the last 3 years and a long list of national brands that won’t touch them for obvious reasons.
That’s 6million plus the untold millions that the big spending Derek Bargwanna will demand that ARN cough up for marketing and contesting.
It’s a classic hale-Mary play.
Looks like a hospital pass.
