The Bachelor debuts fourth in its timeslot as The Block and X Factor hit new lows
The second season of The Bachelor had a disappointing debut last night, coming fourth in its timeslot with an audience 692,000 metro viewers and failing to make the top ten programs.
The new season of the dating show on Ten was not the only program impacted, with TV audiences last night fragmenting across the multi-channels and with only the Seven and Nine news bulletins pulling metro audiences above one million, and the digital channel taking 34.2 per cent of the audience according to the OzTam overnight metro ratings.
Seven’s X Factor won the 7.30pm entertainment battle with 914,000 viewers, however this is the lowest audience for the talent show in its history, beating previous low of 970,000 achieved two weeks ago. Nine’s newest season of renovation reality show The Block Glasshouse drew 813,000 viewers on its fourth outing, its lowest yet.
Aren’t we all over talent-less talent shows and watching whining, annoying people renovate? Time to ditch these annoying “reality” shows… On a side note, it’s great to see channel 9’s white Australia policy on The Block contestants still kicking!
The problem with The Block is that it’s just too blokey.
It’s the The Footy Show of home renovation programs.
I think The Bachelor audience will again grow over time. It has to be the funniest and most sexist show on TV since Benny Hill.
Channel 10 have replaced Masterchef with Masterdate.
So overall TEN won the night:
Ten/One/Eleven – 29.6%
Seven/mate/two – 28.6%
Nine/Go/Gem – 23.7%
How many “The Blocks” have we had this year? we are so over arguing couples and singers with sob stories. When is Dancing with the Stars back?
The Block needs renovating!
The Bachelor will grow. The comments on social media last night about the women vying for his favours were an absolute hoot, as were the contestants. Lots of watercooler talk this morning about it – in OUR office anyway. Nice change from singing and renovating shows.
A reason that the Block will continue to lose viewers is the simple unfairness of it all. Viewers don’t like to see someone suffer, even it is contrived television drama.
EG: Two couples haven’t been able to do anything because someone stuffed up the steelwork (why wasn’t that ordered months ago if its integral to the building?)
EG: Two couples have to repair old windows that the other couples don’t.
And so on and so on. Yes, I agree I’m over whining blondes but the reveal this Sunday should have been put on hold until a level playing field was re-established.
The Bachelor was a hot mess of TV last night. I’ll be back for sure! Gasps and heckling at the TV at our house. A perfect night.
I would actually consider watching The Block if it was a little more diverse. I’ve had enough of watching almost all straight white people interact with each other, how boring.
On a related note, I’m fascinated that it’s Australia’s version of The Bachelor that has a non-white guy on it before the American version, who woulda thought!
