Back Roads most watched non-news program as ABC performs well on a quiet Monday night
The ABC’s Backroads program, in which host by Heather Ewart travels to regional communities, has led a low ratings evening for the second week in succession, as the most watched non-news program of Monday night.

Backroads with Heather Ewart was the most watched non-news program on Monday for a second week in a row.
The show led what was a strong night for the public broadcaster drawing 742,000 metropolitan viewers at 8pm, while Stephen McDonell’s Foreign Correspondent episode at 8.30pm on his decade in China drew 624,000 to win its timeslot and help the ABC to a 13.9 main channel audience share.
Over on the commercial networks a repeat of The Embassy on Nine at 7.30pm drew 590,000 beating Seven’s Better Homes & Gardens’s Christmas special which had 565,000.
Four of the top ten ABC. Congrats.
And last night’s episode of Back Roads was outstanding..great subject, great reporting and beautifully shot.
Back Roads is real reality television – nothing forced, contrived or made up. The characters and towns, all beautifully shot, are left to speak for themselves and it’s not fronted by sparkly-teethed talking heads who always seem to think it’s about them. You can imagine the commercials messing up something like this and jamming gibberers like David Tosh or Karl Stuffitupabit in every shot.
‘Four of the top ten ABC. Congrats.’
Spending taxpayer dollars well it seems. The IPA must be spewing.
