‘Ball’s in their court’: JC Decaux on bungled City of Sydney outdoor tender
JC Decaux, which has held the City of Sydney outdoor advertising and street furniture contract uninterrupted since 1997, has said the local government group now needs to make a move if it wants to solve its outdoor crisis.
JC Decaux was previously considered the front runner for the lucrative account before pulling out of the process due to the contract’s terms.
The City of Sydney first launched expressions of interest for its outdoor contract – which includes installing and operating outdoor advertising displays, kiosks, toilets, shelters, communications pylons, seats, bins and WiFi services – in late 2017.
alternately, we could decide that outdoor advertising is ugly, and does not add value to the city beyond the minimal revenue it generates, and simply not have any. that could be one way to solve it.
The supply of outdoor sites is near infinite, there’s always a new face to be filled, as when Inglorious Basterds etched the Nazi sign on the German officer’s forehead.
Anyhow , now that nobody paints chapel ceilings anymore , the Michelangelo’s are doing outdoor. Enjoy some of the brilliance
If outdoor advertising was banned, good luck finding a bus shelter when it is raining.
All hail our OOH overlords.
The revenue isn’t minimal…
OOH advertising pays for public bus stop, phones, toilets and kiosks City of Sydney won’t pay for themselves.
This has been completely bungled on the Governments side.
The idea of no advertisers sounds great until the maintenance budget for the city goes through the roof and ratepayers have to pay the difference to maintain infrastructure on top of the loss of revenue
