Australian success story Bluey was again the most-streamed show of the year in the US in 2025, despite the ABC-commissioned show not launching a new series.
Americans watched around 45.2 billion minutes of animated blue heeler during 2025 according to Nielsen’s end-of-year streaming charts, which the measurement company releases as part of its Artey awards, named after the company founder Arthur Nielsen.
Bluey beat out Grey’s Anatomy, which was streamed for 40.9 billion minutes, and Stranger Things, which was watched for 40 billion minutes.
Grey’s Anatomy has 455 one-hour episodes, compared to Bluey’s 154-strong catalogue of eight-minute episodes, suggesting a lot of repeat-viewing. Bluey’s viewing minutes were actually down from 2024, when Americans logged 55.6 billion minutes, however there were no new episodes released in 2025.
It is not clear when a new series of Bluey will be released, with creator Joe Brumm having stepped away from the series to focus on a full-length Bluey feature film, which won’t be released until 2027.
The ABC, infamously, receives no financial benefit from the international sales of Bluey because of a deal it did with the BBC prior to the first series airing.
The most-streamed movie was Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2, which debuted in July on Netflix, and was watched for 7.1 billion minutes.
Nielsen also revealed that US audiences watched around 16.7 trillion minutes of streaming — or 31.7 million years’ worth — representing a 19% increase from 2024.
Other well-loved shows in 2025 include NCIS (36.8b minutes), SpongeBob SquarePants (34.3b), Bob’s Burger (34.1m) and Family Guy (33.4b).
Brian Fuhrer, SVP of product strategy at Nielsen, said the Artey awards are an opportunity to acknowledge how consumers are engaging with shows and movies.
“It’s especially interesting to track the evolution of streaming and the titles that drive it year-over-year, and the strategies and successes that our clients have along with it,” he said.
“While there are some expected winners, there are always some surprises and new entrants that have captured the imagination of viewers.
“What is undeniable is the trajectory of streaming, and the increasing appetite for content of all kinds.”
