Bon Jovi is back for NRL ‘This is our house’ campaign
A campaign featuring rock anthem ‘This is our house’ and a computer generated Bon Jovi has launched to mark the start of the National Rugby League’s 2012 Telstra Premiership season.
For the first time, NRL is using social media to engage with fans, with the campaign involving the sport’s Facebook page.
The campaign will also have a heavy presence on outdoor, with key sites including at the Sydney Domestic Airport and a super-site on the M4 motorway near Parramatta. Outdoor executions – which will be erected on Saturday – include goal posts.
Retail advertising, experiential marketing, radio, press and mobile advertising will run in support, with the TV ad running in NRL stadia.
“Rugby League fans embraced the campaign last year which is evident with increased crowd and TV numbers, while Bon Jovi’s universal appeal made it possible to engage a wider entertainment audience,” said Paul McKay, MD of MJW, the agency behind the campaign.
“The success of last year’s campaign show’s that this concept has longevity and the ability for us to create brand equity for the NRL via a campaign which hits both the hearts and the mind’s of rugby league fans,” he added. “This year’s campaign is about showcasing all the game stands for by broadening its appeal to connect with people beyond the TV screen and in stadium.”

I hate to say it, but that Jon Bon is very real.
Truly hideous. What’s with the gratuitous (and lame) vfx??
I love it! It’s got me excited for the start of the season, so it’s done it’s job!
Fuck that is bad.
Who the fuck cares about rugby league anyway?
Same old creative shtick from a damaged brand
Who can forget the recent Manly poster boys who ended up in court on sexual assault charges. This was the “ambassador” for the campaign!
League has no idea frankly
Nice troll Patrick, real subtle.
Rock Music mixed with Rugby League highlights.. never seen that before.
Did the job. Simple reel of past season highlights always a winner for NRL fans. @Patrick – any constructive comments or just a bash on NRL.
They should just roll out Simply the Best again. You can’t tell me that wasn’t a killer campaign!!
Simple reel of past season highlights of any code is a winner for any fans. It’s 101 stuff – hardly innovative.
Jon Bon looks as stiff and old and as full of botox as Madonna did at the Super Bowl. Everyone watched to see her make a fool of herself – not because they expected the narcissistic lip syncing extravaganza it was.
CGI looks amateur. Jon Bon looks weird on his superimposed background.
You did it simply the best with Tina Turner back in the day – this is regurgitate number 64,000.
And if MJW hasn’t been recommending the NRL of all institutions to be utilising social media up until now – who’s been asleep at the wheel? Now it’s news? C’mon…
Duh! This ad is aimed at footy fans. Bang on target. Job done
When will they use Jon Bon’s sister Ann in an ad?
I’m confused. Are you all laying the boot into the NRL for rolling out a campaign strategy that has worked time and time again across a number of football codes, including Rugby Union, The NFL and AFL? Or are people wondering why an ad that doesn’t break any boundaries whatsoever is news?
I think it does what it’s meant to…get people excited about the upcoming season.
Rugby league’s biggest strength is the product, and this TVC showcases it well.
@ whatever. Mastermind you post the same comment every year.
@Patrick – got news for you. NRL pulls more TV viewers than AFL, and as for any other sport coming close, fuggedaboutit. So, plenty of people give a fuck. Its a sport with a very bright future, given it may finally get its hands on some fair TV recompense later this year.
This spot will do the business. Nothing highbrow required.
You’re bang on Chips.
The Fence – the latter.
The fact some has-been CEO with one client thinks this work is worth commenting on smacks of desperation.
If any credit should be given – give it to the boys in Post. Cutting together highlights and laying a track under it isn’t a strategy – it’s a recipe that’s getting overcooked by MJW.
