Mumbrella Awards 2017 launches with new categories and emphasis on results

Australia’s biggest and hardest to win media and marketing awards, the Mumbrella Awards, have returned with new and revamped categories.

Three new categories have been announced for this year:

  • Production Company of the Year – Commercial
  • Production Company of the Year – TV/Film
  • Best Use of Face to Face/Interaction Marketing Through Events.

The criteria for campaign awards have also been tweaked to put an equal rating to the creative execution and the results of the campaign.

Agency of the Year and Culture category finalists will again be asked to provide evidence of their diversity policies as part of new criteria introduced last year, while the judging panel will again be 50% male and 50% female.

Last year saw more than 570 entries and 1,000 guests on awards night

The judging panel will once again feature many of Australia’s top marketers and agency and media identities, with many categories featuring their expertise in the final rounds of face-to-face judging.

Changes to categories this year reflect the continuing evolution of the industry, with live events, exhibitions and experiential activations becoming increasingly important channels for marketers to make an impact with consumers.

The splitting out of the Production Company of the Year category will allow for better comparison of companies on a like-for-like basis.

This year the Promo & Experiential Agency of the Year category has been merged with the Specialist Agency of the Year category, whilst the Sales Team of the Year category has been expanded to pit media companies against other vendors.

Live judging takes place at the Hilton Hotel in Sydney on May 24, whilst finalists in the Media and Creative Agency of the Year categories will receive a visit from a judging panel during that week.

And the awards will be handed out June 29 at The Star in Sydney, where last year more than 1,000 of the industry’s finest enjoyed the biggest celebration of the year.

This year’s event will be hosted by newly-minted 2DayFM breakfast host Em Rusciano.
