Captain Marvel storms the box office, taking $13.6m on opening weekend

Marvel’s first female-led superhero flick, Captain Marvel, has proven a hit at the Australian box office, taking $13.595m on its opening weekend.

The film, staring American actress Brie Larson, was a global box office hit, and is the first Marvel movie to be led solely by a female superhero.

Its success makes the film already the third highest-grossing movie in Australia this year, behind Mary Poppins Returns and How to Train Your Dragon 3.
