Carlton Dry’s Steven Seagal mini-film contest winner is… ‘Sheep Impact’
A competition organised by Carlton Dry where the winner’s short story is made into a mini-film starring Steven Seagal has led to the production of Sheep Impact, in which the martial arts legend and friend attempt to kill a sheep, evade a policeman and pursue an attractive young woman.
The launch of the trailer and ‘mini-blockbuster’ is the final instalment of the six month ‘Legends of the Dry’ campaign devised by Clemenger BBDO Melbourne.
Behind-the-scenes footage can be viewed on the Carlton Dry Facebook page.
Vincent Ruiu, Carlton group marketing manager, said: “We wanted Aussies to submit their favourite, ‘over a beer’ stories. The funny, exciting stuff that gets better the more times you tell it.”
“Paul’s story definitely fits the bill. No matter how many times he tells it over a beer, it always gets a laugh. It was the first time Paul and his wife had ever gone overseas so we were stoked to have them win.”
When released, the trailer for the competition met with a mainly negative resposne on the Mumbrella comment thread.

My Grandpa moves faster than Steven Seagal these days!
All associated with this limp, shallow, incoherent shambles should be ashamed of themselves.
Pathetic.
That was FANTASTIC! A very entertaining and funny short film. Steven Seagal was unexpectedly great – reminded me of Alec Baldwin in 30 Rock. A career renaissance in comedy could well be on the cards for Mr Seagal.
Great work by everyone involved!
I quite like it! Good on ya.
Jeezus he’s stacked on the kg’s
Haha thats great – who cares if he has stacked on the kilo’s – I still wouldnt mess with him
That is gold. LOL
Funny & kept the aussie spirit. Very good
Ok, but not great.
“Like”
I also forgot to mention lame and cheesy.
Not winning.
Errrrrrr?
It’s really lame.
Frustrated film makers? Stick to ads I advise.
It gave me a laugh, nice work!
Its good, harmless fun just like a beer spot should be. I particularly like the little sheep but then I am originally a farm boy from New Zealand.
I vote for awesome. Especially “say hello to my woolly little friend”.
Rather angry aren’t we? Posting your hate twice…
Funny. Better than most. Not off the dial good, but good.
That was hands down the worst thing I have seen in a long time….that was absolute crap
Would have been better it it was funny.
I liked it. It’s funny. These things are hardly meant to be intellectual.
A bit short on laughs for the length
Not bad. Where can you read the original entry? I reckon that’d give it some context to see where they took creative liberties!
yeah it’s not really funny enough for the length. ad people trying to be filmmakers but struggling to work with more than 30secs.
Haters gonna hate…
Amazing stuff. A great advertising idea brought to life as a great film. Awesome.
@ the not so firm
No anger, I don’t bash my keyboard often as such trivial matters, but in this instance was just merely reconciling the truth.
I don’t usually second guess myself, but after all the lovey dovey comments posted on here, against my better judgement, I actually watched it again.
Being a normally fair minded individual I wanted to ensure there were no misgivings in my initial doubt about this turkey.
Eight minutes and fifty seconds I will never get back.
A second serving of the same stench compelled me to dignify it my initial comment with a further response.
What a load of garbage and they wonder why Australian film making is ridiculed around the world. Clemenger should have their advertising licence revoked and made to apologize for deceiving the contestants who submitted genuine ‘Seagal’ style stories. I feel embarrassed for Fosters and Steven Seagal. He looks retarded; the way they dressed him up like a 15 year-old kid.
Surely we Aussies are not so deprived of Aussie actors who could portray an Aussie in an advertisement supposedly about an Australian anecdote and actually have it filmed in Australia????? I’m confused!!!
