ChatGPT advertising launches in Australia
OpenAI will be launching advertising in ChatGPT for Australian users in the coming weeks, “following encouraging early signals from the US test.”
Advertising will be limited to logged-in adult users on the free and go tiers. There will be no ads across Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise.
The company stresses that ChatGPT’s answers will “remain independent and unbiased”, conversations will stay private, and users can have “meaningful control over their experience”.

Chloe Browne, OpenAI’s Australian head of communications said in an email to Mumbrella:
“Our aim here is to support broader access to increasingly capable AI, while maintaining the trust Aussies place in ChatGPT for both everyday and more personal use. Expanding the pilot into markets like Australia allows us to test, learn and refine the experience in key markets where we can move quickly, while holding a high bar for user experience.”
According to Browne, usage for OpenAI’s product has more than doubled in the past 12 months in Australia. It recently established a local Australian team.
Browne said: “For those who prefer not to see ads, there will continue to be options to upgrade to Plus or Pro.”
More details on timing will be revealed in the coming weeks.
