Chemist Warehouse pull ‘Smell like a sir’ ad after ruling against pipe-smoking character
The ad watchdog has upheld a complaint made against the ‘Smell like a Sir’ Father’s Day campaign from Chemist Warehouse, forcing the discount chain to pull all advertising that featured a man holding a pipe.

The Ad Standards Bureau (ASB) received a complaint about the advertisement of tobacco smoking on TV, as well as a child being used in the promotion, which prompted the inquiry.
A man is seen dressed as a character from British yesteryear, complete with moustache, bow tie, monocle and pipe. He is accompanied by a child who wears similar attire, however without the pipe.
The nanny state cometh but yet again.
I actually applaud this decision. Give an inch to the tobacco industry and they will take a mile. Now, if we could just do the same to the sports betting industry.
Oh for God’s sake – get a life!
The so-called “Ad Standards Bureau” a.k.a. unelected, unrepresentative censors of the Lefty-PC Nanny State – are simply the Western bourgeois version of the Islamic State, which destroys architecture and culture that conflicts with their demented beliefs.
I guess book burning can’t be far off [edited by Mumbrella].
How ridiculous, there is nothing “glamorous” in this ad!
Absolutely bloody pathetic. Some people really need to get a life. Pipe smoking has always been a symbol of a true gentleman, the ad is more humorous than anything. I admire a man with a pipe, but looking at this is just a humorous form of advertising for Father’s Day. Political correctness has gone too far, yet again.
