Mix 106.5 turns to gossip writers to guess new presenters Hooper and Rochford
ARN’s Mix 106.5 has drafted in columnists Ros Reines and Annette Sharp to announce its new Sydney breakfast lineup of Andrew Rochford and Claire Hooper.
The station made its announcement via a video of Sunday Telegraph gossip columnist Reines and Daily Telegraph Cofidential editor Sharp playing Guess Who.
Previous breakfast pairing Mike Etheridge and Carmela Contarino were ousted in September after poor ratings. They lasted a year, having replaced Sonia Kruger and Todd McKenney.
In an accompanying press release, ARN said that Rochford – a regular on Ten’s The 7PM Project – would bring “sophistication and intellect” to the breakfast show, while Hooper had a “witty sense of humour”.
The network added: “They will provide the perfect balance of light-hearted fun, intelligent chat and the latest on all things topical and current in Sydney. The content is designed specifically to resonate with the station’s target listeners.”
The release continued: “Andrew and Claire will invite listeners to be involved in the show. Much like long-time friends, the conversation will be genuine, warm, challenging at times, always relatable and energetically entertaining.”
ARN’s national content director Duncan Campbell said: “We’re truly excited and delighted to welcome Andrew and Claire to the MIX 106.5 family.”
The show begins on January 4.
Ironic they play the reality TV card since Andrew Rochford won the Block..
oh dear….agree with Ben. my biggest problem is that the new hosts got 1.2 secs of a 3.5 min infomercial
very strange
How embarrassing…
All these changes to 2UE, Mix and Nova.
I predict the highest rating stations next year will still be 2GB, 2Day and 702. WSFM will remain a close 4th.
Change does not automatically translate to ratings. Just look at:
– Classic Rock. Fail
– the Nova breakfast show. Fail
– Mix’s new sound in 2010. Fail.
“Andrew will bring spphistciation and intellect to the breakfast show”. Who writes this stuff?????
Hint: Ross Reines and close ups do not work.
Spacfilla to studio three please.
Why does Ros have such trouble saying ‘no’? she ends up saying it um, weirdly.
Interesting mix. Dr Andrew?!
“Andrew and Claire will invite listeners to be involved in the show. Much like long-time friends, the conversation will be genuine, warm, challenging at times, always relatable and energetically entertaining.” – So the same formula as every other breakfast show in the country… good one.
It’s good, Dr Andrew will be able to easily diagnose the annoying sound Sydneysiders will have in their ears from January, it will be sitting right next to him.
I have to buy a new dictionary as the meaning of witty in mine in no way described the dribble from Claire Hooper sprouts. Must also invest in ipods, sales will now surely increase.
What’s up Doc 😉
HOT.
Ironic how your comments about dribble made no sense at all.
Yes, I work at ARN
finally I can wake up each morning with Dr. Rochford, though not in the way I’d like.
Funny stuff Simon. Murdoch looking for a replacement?
Confirmation that “Sydney radio is a foreign country – they do things differently there”.
Interesting, too, how most of the candidates are from Melbourne.
Dr Rochford & Hoops – GREAT CHOICE! Hot & Funny!
I always thought Ros was Annette’s boss??
When are they just going to realise that no one is as good as Sammy Power and Jason Bouman and they should resurrect the team back to their rightful home. They had double the audience of Sonia and Todd and about quadruple of the latest duo!! ARN, swallow your pride and give your listeners what they want.
Somehow I think the 3:17 I spent watching this promo will be longer than I spend listening to their show.
Ros reines is death
The Dr may be hot but this is radio. IT DOESN’T COUNT!!!
Good old radio still poaching from every other medium than its own. Song and dance pros, theatre graduates, stand-up comics and now a medico and a couple of newspaper columnists all hooked in to sell a medium that can’t produce its own talent. Either radio suffers a massive inferiority complex or cant spawn its own stars. What works on television or in a newspaper column doesn’t automatically translate to radio. Radio needs to discover its brilliant DNA – instant, personal, imagery, sound.
I’m sorry, but I actually find this promo kinda funny… esp. when you consider the number of reality TV “stars” we have in this country. The production values just let it down a bit.
And agreed with Madison’s comment – just say “NO”! – it’s a very easy word to pronounce!
Dumbest Commercial Ever
I don’t mean to be overly negative but MIX seems to be sacking their breakfast hosts every single year. Why is this team going to be any different to the last two duos?
There are over 8 million ears in this city and each year fewer and fewer choose MIX.
Whoever got rid of Sammy should not be in radio.I never listended to her but at least she could get some decent figures.
Prediction: In a year from now the Mix breakfast team will be getting replaced by the couple who win The Block in 2011.
