Col Allan to return to Australia
The editor-in-chief of The New York Post, and former editor of The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph, Col Allan is to return “temporarily” to Australia.
In a surprise announcement made this morning, News Corp CEO Robert Thomson told staff Allan would: “Spend the next two or three months working with [CEO] Kim Williams and providing extra editorial leadership for our papers, which are in the midst of an important period of transition in our key markets.”
The email said Allan will arrive begin work in Australia from Monday and the end of the stint would “return to his position as Editor-in-Chief of the New York Post following the assignment”.
In his absence Jesse Angelo, the Publisher of the New York Post will oversee the US tabloid paper.
Kim versus Col! The rumble in the jungle! Gotta love it.
There’s an election coming and Rupert’s preferred side is looking a little shakey. Col is back to give the Limited News tabloids some real front page oomph. Watch for some classic ‘Headless Body in Topless Bar’ type front pages in the Terror and the Hun. I reckon even The Oz will have some rippers aimed squarely at Rudd and the ALP. The Greens will cop an even worse time.
