CommBank set to pitch $44m media account, Ikon again on alert
The Commonwealth Bank is set to call a review of its media account and is expected to invite a select number of media agencies to pitch for the high profile banking client.
The news is another blow for STW majority-owned Ikon coming just a week after the agency lost the $17m Diageo account, with CommBank a foundation client of the media agency.
Rumours of a potential pitch have been circulating for many months, with OMD, ZenithOptimedia, Carat and Initiative all tipped to be in the pitch as they are the main media agencies who do not have a conflict, alongside incumbent Ikon.
All of the agencies contacted by Mumbrella declined to comment however it is understood that a number of agencies have been sounded out and told to prepare.
You don’t think AMP would be a bit pissed if UM went for the CBA account that comes ready made with a CFS brand?
Wow, these guys can’t catch a break at the moment. It’s kind of sad really.
That has to hurt
At this rate you have to think that its only a matter of time before management change at the top is needed.
Winning client confidence in the longer term roadmap for Ikon has to be on the agenda now or we may see Ikon rolled into another media agency to prevent the business simply folding.
Will be sad to see the brand go.
Why did the management team leave last year?
Very sad indeed. A once brilliant agency…
Look forward to STWs next quarterly update.
This can’t be! Ikon just got a new logo!
I can honestly say the day to day teams are exceptional at their job and always go above and beyond for their clients. Any account would be lucky to have them.
This might be where we see the Phoenix rise
@WH
Am curious, you say clients, how is it that you have a view across all clients? Are you one of the staff?
@jason any media owner could have that opinion…
@WH I wholeheartedly agree!
Good point, I didn’t think of that.
I hear that STW may be merging Bohemia and Ikon. Would make sense…
@Jon. Wouldn’t be a surprise. Fantastic management by STW. Help an ex Ikon guy to set up in direct competition to ikon , despite the fact you own a greater share of Ikon. Stand by whilst Bohemia poaches ikons people and then clients creating genuinely understandable illwill between the two agencies and then merge them. Reads like a case study in exactly what not to do to me.
Seeing of Bohemia’s new staffers would be from Ikon, It would more be an overtake instead of merger to me.
