CommBank’s bulldog ad goes to air
Bulldog, the last in an initial trilogy of ads shot by French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet for Commonwealth Bank has gone to air.
The ad features disappointment for a bulldog when his wooing of a poodle is cut short by his owner’s speedy return from the bank.
The first two ads in the series by Jeunet, the director of Amelie, have already gone to air, while CGI effects around the Bulldog saw the latest work take slightly longer.
The three ads from Goodby Silverstein were shot in May. Jeunet will shoot more in Melbourne in the next few weeks.

bulldog’s accent is MOST annoying
I must confess that these ads are starting to grow on me.
We open on some dog balls…..
Hate this series of ads. But this one is a far improvement on the pathetic fainting lady. The concept is much more in line with their strategy, rather than showing some useless employee’s running through the white picket fence to save the damsel in distress that gets a call back.
Hate to think how much was spent for this series.
what self indulgent rubbish!
is visual to “the theme line, the logo” meant to be in time with the audio. seems out of sync.
i like these ads, but they missed the mark with this one – the dialoge between the dogs just does not work for me – get the point but think it could have been made in a better way.
Nonsensical rubbish
I agree with @macsmutterings.
Good concept, poor copywriting.
Nothing more than an uber wank, American Agency, French Director, NY Production House, cockney bulldog and an extremely unfunny spot that will merely confound and bemuse (not amuse) their target market, Criminal!
Not a fan at all of these ads.
What exatly is the point??? “We solve problems quicker then your eating lunch” isnt exactly worth an entire ad!!! Poor effort for Commonwealth – Not showing how they are better at all…
This series doesn’t really do it for, but this execution is by far the most non-sensical of the lot.
I actually like this, hated the fainting woman though.
Although I thought the line “I’ll give you 100” meant something else at first.
wobble wobble balls
Agree with Mike… this would have cost a fortune, but really shouldn’t have. Poor.
Makes me wanna buy financial services products! Specifically from Commbank!
Hate this ad less than the other ones. But reminds me that Comm Bank can’t come up with a single credible brand value than ‘taking the piss.’ They’re a bank, people. Not a lager.
Comeon, guys, its a bank brand. Instinctively hated by everyone, the least they could go for was a good laugh.
Im not a massive fan, but it didnt piss me off like the other offerings at the moment, such as Nab’s bloody children or the stupid “A” bank adverts.
and we all bagged Barbara from ANZ….
Sad waste of money
They should have spent the money on Pedro Almodovar.
Hi hmmm,
I think you were right about the audio being out of sync – they’ve posted a new version which I’ve updated above.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
Huge wast of money, building an internal audience when really you’ve got nothing to say. And in the other spot “we’ll call you back when we say we will” … what about you just answer the phone when I call or call me back when I want you to!!!
This dog of a campaign should be put down!
I am starting to feel a little embarassed when I use a Commonwealth Bank ATM.
The great advertising campaigns that mke you smile include Woolworths ads like the one with the Greek couple.
Me thinks no one really understands Australian humour at this bank.
Hey i like the ad, it was filmed outside my shop !
This ad is riot! That bulldog sounds like a cockney bloke I have in my Tug of War Team. Want to see some really tough bulldogs visit http://www.tug-o-war.asn.au
Who is the gorgeous lady in the bulldog ad. Has she featured any where else?
