CU in the NT

It seems the good folk at NT Tourism (SEE UPDATE BELOW) someone has taken a leaf from the tongue-in-cheek stylings of Darwin newspaper the NT News (which brought you headlines like “Why I stuck a cracker up my clacker”) for its new range of merchandise.
That is a range of t-shirts and singlets and bumper stickers which simply say CU [in the] NT…
See what they did there?
According to the website NTOfficial.com the product range is there “so you can show your love for the top end and everything within”.
And what screams Northern Territory more than a singlet with a croc on it? Except one with a barramundi, bird or kangaroo, of course.
Update 1.30pm: Tourism NT has issued the following statement:
Tourism NT has no connection and is no way affiliated with the website or Facebook page of NTOfficial.com or any of their promotions.
Which begs the question of just who is behind the promotions, and whether Tourism NT is happy with the appropriation of their logo. More on these soon…
Its the NT News…not NT Times…
Do you mean NT News?
I had to double check that this wasn’t a post from the Betoota Advocate …… surely this can’t be real!
NT News not NT Times.
Perhaps Wicked Campers should relocate to Darwin?
Red Neck marketing wont’ get the top end spenders.
They can take the yobbo’s who are looking for a place to hang now Sydney clubs have locked them out in the cold.
Hopefully beer and heat will be a better mix up there.
Do you mean the NT News?
Hi Sterling,Dan and From The NT
You are all most certainly right – we’ve fixed that up.
Cheers,
Miranda – Mumbrella
Wrong! Not a campaign from Tourism NT — just a range of backyard merchandise.
Mumbrella, you have been sucked in …
This is a GREAT campaign.
It makes sure that people like me won’t go near the Territory.
And that’s good for them – makes more space for the crude, beer-swilling, bogans they are clearly appealing to.
What?!
It’s reads CUNT.
A new low point for Australian Tourism communications….if they wanted people outside the NT to think of Territorians as offensive bogans with zero appeal to a broader tourism demographic other than Males 18-29 then they’ve nailed this one on the head. Marketing teams everywhere just tried to burn this image from their minds.
Is it April Fool already? They’re really playing to their demographic here … let the complaints begin.
This has no affiliation with Tourism NT your copy is misleading and needs fact checking.
How come you are reporting this an official campaign of NT Tourism? This isn’t a campaign by the Government marketing body. The website is a small business.
It seems that it isn’t from Tourism NT…
pretty cool, I hope you’re getting kickbacks from the jokers who did this 5 months early.
@Paulie : really, are you sure, well fuck me sideways who would’ve noticed?
It just needs ‘where the bloody hell are you?’ below it.
Seriously Mumbrella whoever thought this was a great story is a joke themselves. You are promoting offensive advertising, damaging NT Tourism who are not involved and given free advertising to a backyard operation who are oblivious to the legalities of what they have done. Why don’t you take this piece down?!
Would have to agree with Adele. Why would you encourage this reckless and offensive behaviour? Oh, I know, for the clicks that will come from people outside of the industry who have zero relevance to your advertisers.
Tourism NT right now should be thinking how they can capitalise on this!
Ah no. Unless it’s legal action.
This has reached London. A great friend of mine ran FRENCH CONNECTION retail stores in London and she had some fun t-shirts printed for when the employees played softball in Hyde Park: FCUK. The owner then appropriated this for their logo. I think this is a MUST for the N.T Tourism Commission. By the way, this made me HOWL with laughter. What better way to promote the N.T.
Chill out people! If you have never lived in the NT you do not know what you are talking about. No it is not the NT Tourism behind this. But…what we love up here is cheeky, funny , non nanny state crap. Thats why this will do well. Relax and find the humour in it. That’s what we all do up here because it is too damn hot to be so hung up on trivialities. Save your angst for the American election!
I first heard of it from a link to the Huff. Post. Someone’s on a marketing roll.
A very interesting story Geoffrey!
The FCUK upset some (older) people when the store was opened in Adelaide with those letters.
So where can I buy them?
Sloppy journalistic work by practically every media outlet picking up this story and running with it. Nothing a quick phone call could’ve clarified where the story came from.
Where can I get them?
NT unofficial 🙂
How can I buy a tshirt please
I find this new sticker offensive for which kids will be taught that it is ok to use this language as acceptable and the NT GOVERNMENT has no care other than to use a play on foul language for drawing attention . DISAPPOINTING !
