Dad Bods, do they sell? Clearly these two similar ads think they do…
Sitting down watching the telly, Dr Mumbo was confronted with this funny little ad, celebrating men of all shapes and sizes. Dr Mumbo loves body positivity… but have we not seen this ad elsewhere before?
First, here is the ad from Step One, everyone’s favourite Bamboo-based underwear retailer.

I know that everyone comes in all shapes and sizes but I find all these ads for underwear for both men and women too OTT and maybe a more subtle approach would be more comfortable to watch. I don’t need to be reminded what the human body looks like – good or not so good.
A total ripoff, no doubt about it. Step One also ripped off the music for their spot: notice their jingle shares the exact same beat with the DADBOD track as well as an almost identical bassline, production choices etc… and that’s not to mention the similarities with the videoclip. Ethical brand my arse. Hopefully their share price keeps tanking. Watch original DADBOD clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B9EATHoIRE
Also from the daily tele – the dude who wrote the dadbod song from the DSC ad also alleges that step one stole his tune. https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/subscribe/news/1/?sourceCode=DTWEB_WRE170_a_GGL&dest=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailytelegraph.com.au%2Fentertainment%2Fsydney-confidential%2Fdadbod-hit-singer-slams-undies-ad-over-stealing-material%2Fnews-story%2Ff3a7a9324e25d11e7179b531269b8116&memtype=anonymous&mode=premium&v21=dynamic-warm-control-score&V21
