Discount for tarts is okay, rules advertising watchdog – but menstrual cycle joke is unacceptable
Advertisers can call women tarts if they do so lightheartedly, the Advertising Standards Board has ruled.
The ASB chose not to uphold a complaint against Wicked Campers which offered a discount to former catholic schoolgirls and also made reference to “tarts in tartan” and sexy nuns.
The campervan hire company is among the businesses most complained about to the ASB. It did not respond to the ASB’s investigation.
Am I some kind of prude, or does anyone else have a significant problem with ALL of these discount conditions?
Hang on, is it the reference to periods the ASB is complainging about or the blatant misogyny (or the use of an old joke)?
Definition of Mysogyny = Australian media and the ASB
“I wouldn’t trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn’t die”
Obviously I wont be hiring my camper-van from them.
“Wicked did not respond to the ASB’s investigation”
Probably too busy keeping their vans serviced and roadworthy.
No, I don’t think so either.
