Disney inks US$1bn OpenAI deal, bringing its characters into Sora

Disney will invest US$1 billion (A$1.5 billion) in OpenAI under a deal that will see its library of iconic characters fed into the tech giant’s Sora AI video generator.

The agreement includes a three-year licencing arrangement allowing Sora to create short, user-prompted social videos “that can be viewed and shared by fans,” according to an OpenAI announcement.

The AI-generated clips will draw on more than 200 characters across Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars and be will be made available to stream on Disney+.
