Ergon Energy use Grim Llama to warn people to be safe around electricity

Ergon Energy is asking regional Queenslanders to be safer around electricity in a campaign which sees a llama used to represent death.

Created by Clemenger BBDO Brisbane, the “Grim Llama” character appears when people are about to be unsafe around electricity.

Creative Director at Clemenger BBDO Brisbane, Marianne Harvey, explained the choice of a llama, saying they are natural sentinels. “They’re used by sheep farmers to warn flocks of danger. Plus, those big, black eyes stare directly into your soul. How could you forget a look like that?” she said.

Ergon Energy marketing manager, Samantha Schultz said: “It’s easy to turn off to a scare campaign, but if you see something funny and likeable, it immediately draws you in to the story we’re trying to tell.

“We’re very excited about the end result – the Grim Llama has great cut-through. I already see him in my mind’s eye whenever I’m working around the house,” she said.
