Fifty Shades Darker scores the top position with $6m in first week

Fifty Shades Darker, part two in the Fifty Shades series, surged to the top of the weekend box office to take more than $6 million, according Motion Picture Distributors of Australia (MPA).

Fifty Shades Darker, the adaption from the book series E.L. James, debuted last Friday and has some work to do if it’s to match the first film Fifty Shades Of Grey, which earned over $17 million in its first 10 days of its release.

Lion continued its strong run in second spot at the weekend box office, albeit $3.7 million behind Fifty Shades Darker at $2.4 million. Lion has taken a total box office of $19.8 million since its release.
