Freeview boss aims for HbbTV in 10% of Australian households in first year
The boss of free-to-air television industry body Freeview has said it is aiming for 10 per cent penetration for the new Hybrid broadcast broadband TV (HbbTV) television service which launches tomorrow in its first year of operation.
In an interview with Mumbrella, general manager of Freeview Liz Ross rejected media criticisms of the delays in the launch and said their modelling on the expected uptake could see usage as high as one in ten of Australia’s 8m plus households by September 2015.
“We have quite conservative forecasts,” Ross told Mumbrella. “The modelling is pretty straightforward we haven’t even modelled in an increase in the turnover of receivers. It is conceivable that it could be in more than 10 per cent of homes within year one.”

Well I won’t be able to access it thanks to internet issues in my area… count me out as one of the 10 %
Can we fast forward to remove advertising.?
Count me out too.the service is for tv so why do we have to be connected to the internet? I have a smart tv and thats not connected to the internet.i have a smartphone and tablet for that.If it operated like a normal set top box,id be in.i have foxtel so i dont really care.also, ill record what i cant see at the time its on tv.thats why vcrs were invented and for those who dont have a vcr,dvd recorders, pvrs and so on.
Not interested now…..
My smart 3DTV (connected to the internet) does the same thing with a couple of extra clicks through the inbuilt apps.
I think it will be harsher on the internet allowance/cost due to browsing and not great on mobile broadband due to constant buffering.
I currently use mobile broadband out of necessity and the speed can be frustrating.
It can’t change the speed of your net connection.
