Google media lead heads to Unltd as new CEO

Media industry charity body Unltd (“unlimited”) has announced that Google’s local media lead Philippa Moig has been appointed chief executive officer.

Moig will take up the CEO role from June, and is expected to roll out the company’s “new cause-centric strategy”.

Moig has been ANZ media lead at Google from September last year. Before her contract at the technology giant, Moig filled numerous leadership roles at major media agencies, such as business director and client leader at dentsu’s Carat; head of NSW Government at OMD; manager for implementation planning and investment at MediaCom, and more.

Outside of her work, Moig was also a 2022 Marketing Academy scholar, which, according to her LinkedIn profile, saw her participate in “[a] highly selective and competitive program where only 30 Scholarships are awarded to the best National emerging leaders in Marketing, Advertising, Media and Communications.”

She’s also a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion advisory Council member at the Media Federation of Australia.

Unltd’s Board of Directors chair, Karen Halligan, spoke highly of Moig and her qualities.

“Philippa brings an impressive mix of ambition, energy, leadership skills and demonstratable results in uniting our industry for social change,” Halligan said in Thursday’s media release.

“She has shown unwavering tenacity and proactivity to land this role. It’s easy to talk about creating change but Philippa has demonstrated through her actions and results over the years that she is capable and committed to creating real change.”

While working as CEO, Moig will report to the organisation’s Board of Directors and sit within the current leadership team.

Her appointment comes over one month after her predecessor, Stephen Hunt, stepped down from the CEO role to look for new opportunities, after filling it for less than a year. Prior to Hunt, Ooh Media’s former group sales director and MiQ’s current chief revenue officer, Chris Freel, served as Unltd’s CEO for over five years.

“I am so excited to be joining UnLtd after years of supporting the incredible work done by UnLtd. My commitment to UnLtd stems from a profound understanding of the challenges faced by at-risk youth and what happens when they are unable to receive the support they need,” Moig said in the above-mentioned release.

“I’ve seen through personal experience and my work with many of the UnLtd charity partners, how impossible the cycle is to break, and how fundamentally important the role of UnLtd, and the wider industry is in changing these stories.

“I’m on a mission to be the catalyst for transformative change, together we can and must put our goodwill into action, and I can’t wait to get started.’’
