How Hungry Beast spawned a viral hit
In this guest post, Lewis Hobba and Marc Fennell reveal the inside story of how Hungry Beast created a viral hit
In April the good folks at mUmBRELLA took a break from arbitrarily adding capital letters to its name to write a short piece about a video made for ABC’s Hungry Beast that had hit one million views on YouTube.
The video, a parody trailer for Avatar 2, has continued quietly ticking over and now has well over 2.5 million views online. That means if we gather up every person in the world who’s watched it, it’s only about seven times less popular than MasterChef.
I was in the same room as those two guys when they wrote it.. No big deal.. I know them
Wow, dan, can I Twitter that I read a comment about a guy that knew the guys that wrote the trailer that ripped off Avatar? Lame.
Dig it. I see blue people is the killer line.
haha Dan – i interviewed you once about culture jamming for a radio production assignment back at mac uni – you’re a media gangster now – well done!
I went to high school with Dan. Just sayin’.
I saw Dan in a cafe once
I got re-tweeted by Dan once.
i have no idea who this Dan person is but he seems very well connected.
I kept failing to get jobs after they’d ask me if I knew Dan Ilic and I’d say “no”. Then they asked me and I said “yes”, and not only did I get the job but they gave me 20% more salary than I was asking and every second Friday off (to have lunch with Dan, I told them).
Most recruitment agents are related to Dan Ilic. At least three of them actually are Dan Ilic.
The Avatar 2 trailer is funny. I like the format of Hungry Beast and I hope it sticks around to get even better. It’s not perfect but still has its moments
heheh, owned
I AM Dan Ilic… at night-time, when I don the persona and fight crime..
