Ikon and Essence’s Myer partnership ends, with entire media account returning to Ikon
The Myer account is no longer split across WPP agencies Ikon and Essence, with the entire account returning to Ikon, Mumbrella can reveal.
The move ends a partnership established six months ago.
So what actually happened? Essence pitched for the business behind IKON’s back with WPP’s backing. Jenny Pham left almost immediately after winning it. 7 staff at ikon either left via redundancy or because they could no longer stand working there. Mel Roberts was pushed.
All this change just to go back to Ikon who are seriously understaffed? Must be more to this story. I wish WPP were honest for once.
Pretty disgusting when you think about. 5 young people lost their job for this and 6 months later the account is back. Poor management.
WPPAUNZ has made it clear to employees and the market they are only investing in the “global” brands in its portfolio. So they are trying to move clients out of the local brands like IKON so that when they merge or close the local brands they have less severance to pay.
This story doesn’t need any more oxygen. Move on.
