Ikon dismisses ‘disgraceful’ allegation, as Advangen presses case against ‘Gone With The Wind’ TV ad
Multiple allegations levelled against Ikon Communications over a 2015 marketing campaign are unfounded, contrived and, in one case, disgraceful, and should be dismissed, Sydney’s Supreme Court has heard.

In his closing submissions to Justice Ball, Ikon barrister Todd Alexis SC said the agency’s former client, Advangen, had failed to demonstrate any breach of contract or show that Ikon had not delivered an integrated campaign.
He said Advangen chief executive Maria Halasz, who was questioned for two days last week, was not a credible witness as her evidence “can’t sustain scrutiny”.
“. . . the ‘client knows nothing about advertising’ “. Do Advangen’s marketing people agree?
Which marketing people? The ones who signed off the campaign?
Since when did clients become passive bystanders in their own campaigns? How utterly ridiculous. That marketing director is disgraceful, in her lack of creative judgement, backbone and personal integrity. We’ve all met clients like her – and we all try to avoid them like the plague. And the lawyer arguing no other profession puts pleasing the client above their own benchmarks for quality has 1. No idea how often agencies are beaten into submission to produce inferior work to what they want to produce. 2. Never tried to sustain an advertising business by always insisting that they are right and the client is wrong and what they have produced is what is going ahead. That stunt can only be pulled in the gravest of situations, and you will probably not work for them again.
The material was OK. I can see the client being pleased with what was produced.
Ikon however failed to reach the target audience. It like they were offered some irrelevant cheap time slots to dispose of some cash.
I recall the female version ads being played through a title fight.
