I’m a Celebrity gets 1.2m on first outing as Asian Cup final hands ABC Saturday night win
Network Ten’s new reality show I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here got 1.199m viewers for its opening show and 1.119m for its Welcome to the Jungle special last night.
The ten contestants going into the African jungle were unveiled last night, and faced the first ‘Tucker Trial’ seeing former MixFM Melbourne DJ Chrissie Swan being covered in thousands of bugs in a bid to get meal tokens.

However, the weekend was dominated by sport, with Sunday night’s epic Australian Open final where Novak Djokovic beat Andy Murray pulling in 2.088m for the conclusion of the long match, with 1.881m watching the first part from 7.30pm on Channel Seven, which secured an audience share of 35.9 per cent.
This from the Fin:
“The 30 minutes of extra-time, during which Australian midfielder James Troisi scored the winning goal after a brilliant turn and cross from substitute striker Tomi Juric, were watched by an average 2.47 million viewers on the ABC and another 441,000 on Fox Sports Australia.”
What’s the discrepancy there?
Hi By the Numbers,
They are most likely looking at metro and regional numbers combined. We only look at metro numbers for a variety of reasons.

Celebrity did not do 1.306.. You’ve taken Nine news result in top programs.
Cheers Alex, thanks.
Hi Thomas,
You’re right – transpositional error – changed now.

Mumbrella, how can ABC claim 5 or 6 million watched the soccer? On what figures (or on what planet) are they basing that?
Cheers
Hi Robbo,
The ABC 5m figure seems to be a peak audience around the time when the extra time goal went in. The rest of the ratings are based on an average of people watching the entire show.
Hope that clears it up?
