IPG CFO John Clements moves to Joy

Independent integrated agency Joy has named John Clements its chief finance officer (CFO), as his predecessor, Robyn Hayward, departs.

Clements’ appointment marks the end of a 14-year tenure at IPG Mediabrands. He entered the media agency network in 2012 as national finance director of Initiative, before stepping up as group finance director of IPG in mid-2016. Most recently, Clements worked as IPG’s group CFO across Australia.

Earlier in his career, the finance exec spent close to nine and a half years in various financial roles at media agency Mindshare.

He will begin his new role on March 1.

“John comes with a wealth of experience as a holdco CFO,” Joy’s chief executive officer, Peter Horgan, said in a media release. Horgan was appointed CEO of Joy in September last year, having previously been CEO of Omnicom before its monumental merger with IPG last year.

“He has also led the finance committee of the MFA for the last five years. John’s appointment signals our ambition to continue building blue chip capability underpinned by strong governance principles.”

In the same release, Clements said he is excited to be joining Joy, naming the indie agency’s “clear sense of purpose, strong culture and ambition for sustainable growth” as the factors that appealed to him.

“I’m looking forward to partnering with Horgs and the leadership team to help build on an already strong platform that supports long-term growth for its clients,” Clements said.

Hayward became Joy’s CFO in 2022. Before then, she spent close to three years as finance director at ITV Studios Australia.

“I’d personally also like to thank Robyn Hayward, who has been a great asset to the business and a friend to us all,” Horgan said in the release.
