Jack Reacher sequel steals top box office spot from The Girl on the Train

Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher: Never Go Back opened last weekend at the top of the box office, taking $2.6m in earnings and the the top spot from The Girl on the Train.

The Jack Reacher sequel performed on par with the first film, which took in $2.941m in its opening week in 2013.

In the second place, The Girl on the Train pulled in $1.889m across 293 screens, dropping from the previous week’s $2.615m.

Action-comedy film Keeping Up with the Joneses opened at the third place, taking in $1.095m across 264 screens, while Inferno followed with $1.074m at the fourth place, dropping from number two the previous week.

Horror film Ouija: Origin of Evil opened in the fifth spot, taking $916,817 across 171 screens.

Both Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and the The Magnificent Seven slipped out of the top five, taking in $635,491 and $344,338, respectively.
