Twitter Australia looks to grow up – but can it challenge the might of Facebook and Google?
Twitter has been making headlines globally in the past few months amid a series of executive changes and stock market falls. Mumbrella’s Nic Christensen talked to its Australian boss Karen Stocks about its local performance and future strategy in this market.
“Twitter is now embedded in everything we do from an Australian cultural perspective,” declares Karen Stocks, as we sit down. “There is no sporting event that doesn’t have a Twitter integration, there are no TV shows that don’t have it – it is just part of the Australian psyche now.”
You can say what you want about Twitter as a platform but there’s no doubting its Australian boss’ confidence in what she views as its rightful place in the local media landscape.
Twitter has lost its relevance in the market…
Why would I post breaking news articles on Twitter when I can do the same on Facebook and know I am reaching a bigger, more engaged audience, with greater ease.
Bye, bye birdie….
I use Twitter because it’s more “mobile” than Facebook. for me and my work It is used more widely among the media and has proved its usefulness in speaking directly with journalists. Not sure f Google is all that relevant, as most people only use it for search and mail. G+ in Australia has been a dud (unless you’re a photographer). As the article said, Twitter needs to define itself. What is its purpose, audience and benefits?
Because Facebook will decide if your audience sees it Steve. Don’t assume its relevance in market has diminished because of size.
Why would a platform’s local office decline to confirm to local advertisers as to how many local users are using the platform?
