KFC to deliver ‘Habanero High Tea’ experience for Mother’s Day

KFC is helping customers celebrate their mums, Mother’s Day and the chain’s new habanero range via a high tea activation.

The announcement:

It’s that time of year again, the day you try to cram a lifetime of gratitude into one gift for Mum. She’s been your chef, nurse, therapist, personal chauffeur and the hero behind your last-minute school projects, but new research from KFC reveals that over half (51%) of Aussie mums agree their ‘feel good’ (dopamine) levels are lower this year compared to a year ago*. So, it’s time to ditch the sad petrol station bouquet and treat her to something that’ll get those happy hormones pumping faster than your heartrate at a spin class. Rally the gals, because KFC is putting a bold twist on the traditional high tea with the ‘Habanero High Tea’: a world-first experience where Aussie mums can let loose and experience the Habanero High.

According to the research, Aussie mums voted enjoying a delicious feed (59%) as their number one Mother’s Day activity, with over a quarter of mums (27%) saying fried chicken is a top food they’d like to tuck into on the day*. KFC’s Habanero High Tea is your opportunity to be the favourite child and treat mum to the ultimate Mother’s Day shindig.

Mums can look forward to an afternoon of good times and great food with their besties, served up with free-flowing Habanero Hot & Crispy. Putting a spicy spin on the traditional high tea, it’s out with the scones and in with the vibes. Picture live entertainment including DJs pumping your mum’s favourite bangers all afternoon long, drinks flowing and a toast with her clique. To top it all off, there’ll be an endless spread of KFC including Popcorn Chicken, nuggets, chips and of course – KFC’s limited-time Habanero Hot & Crispy, plus plenty of other delicious treats.

KFC’s Habanero High Tea will take place on Sunday 11 May at Sydney’s Watsons Bay Hotel, with limited tickets going on sale from Tuesday 6 May at 9am AEST. Tickets are available to adults 18+, priced at $50 each (plus a booking fee) and must be purchased in pairs. Profits from ticket sales will support Aussie youth’s mental health and wellbeing through the KFC Youth Foundation and its charity partners: Black Dog Institute and ReachOut Australia. So, you can celebrate mum and support a great cause.

Sally Spriggs, group marketing director at KFC Australia, commented: “Mums are the unsung heroes, juggling everything all year round and yet, KFC’s research found almost one in five mums are still planning their own Mother’s Day celebrations. With Habanero Hot & Crispy launching nationwide for a limited-time, we thought it was high time to flip the script and give mums a fun, unforgettable experience. The Habanero High Tea is our spicy spin on the classic high tea – bold, lively, and totally unexpected. It’s their turn to relax, have some fun, and enjoy a celebration that’s all about them.”

Not based in Sydney and want to get your hands on a ticket to the Habanero High Tea? KFC’s got you covered, because five lucky Aussies and their plus ones will get a chance to win an exclusive stay at the Habanero Hotel with flights included. Visit KFC’s socials to find out more.

Habanero Hot & Crispy is available for a limited time at KFC restaurants nationwide and for delivery via the KFC App from Tuesday 22 April until 2 June 2025. Fans can get their hands on Habanero Hot & Crispy as a three or six piece snack, or as a combo. Or try the Habanero Hot & Crispy Boneless Variety Feast which includes six-pieces of Habanero Hot & Crispy, four Original Tenders, six Nuggets, Potato & Gravy, regular corn, large chips, and a drink. As always, Habanero Hot & Crispy is here for a good time, not a long time so get into a KFC restaurant or order via the app and treat yourself or mum, of course.
