Marketing grads: how to get a media agency’s attention
Dr Mumbo knows how hard it can be when you’re a university graduate looking for that right place to land that first job.
So full points to the university student who on the back of last week’s M Grad project at Mumbrella360 decided to pull a little stunt and get the attention of the senior leadership at GroupM:
He can also report the graduate is looking at pretty good odds to find themselves in GroupM’s incubator graduate scheme the M Grad program…
Jessica Maley, talent acquisition manager for GroupM Australia told Dr Mumbo: “This application has certainly grabbed our attention!
Meh, i skydived and traveled the world with a ‘Hire me’ sign to get my internship. Good on them for putting some thought into the application though.
Luke, that’s nothing, I climbed everest and went to space to do part time unpaid data entry for telstra. also my dad has a gun that can shoot to jupiter. good on you for putting some thought into your application though.
I sent kit kats in the post asking for someone to give me a break…it worked. Led to a weeks work experience and then I offered to do a day week free of charge whilst I was in the final year of uni which they accepted, three months later this turned into paid work one day per week. At the end of the final year of uni, was offered a job in the same media agency…still working in media 17 years later…
Good on the applicant for showing some initiative but this is not a new concept. Grads have been doing this for years. Some 15 years ago I received a small hand made step ladder with the inscription “let me step-up with xxxx.” BTW the person got an interview but didn’t get the job for they didn’t interview at all well so the lesson is doing something different can open doors but you still have to deliver. Very similar to new biz pitches…
