M&C Saatchi appoints agency chief strategist

M&C Saatchi has promoted strategist Nick Jacobs to chief strategy officer of the agency, effective immediately.

Jacobs’ new role pertains to the strategic ambition of M&C Saatchi Agency, which sits within the M&C Saatchi Group. He does not replace recently departed Emily Taylor, who was chief strategy officer of the Group.

He has spent the last five-and-a-half years at the agency, working alongside the creative team on clients including Tourism Australia, Australian Retirement Trust and Minderoo.

He joined as senior strategy director, before being promoted to head of strategy in 2020. Prior to M&C Saatchi, Jacobs worked at TBWA, Y&R, BMF and Switzerland-based shopper marketing agency FPP.

In a statement given to Mumbrella, M&C Saatchi’s CEO, Michael McEwan, said: “We are thrilled to elevate Nick’s position in the business.

“His experience and credentials are exceptional and align beautifully with the on-going ambition for M&C Saatchi as we continue to embrace the optimum creative structure for our clients’ needs and evolving capabilities.”

The news comes after a number of senior departures for M&C Saatchi in recent times, with Thursday’s news of group creative director Sharon Edmondston and three others exiting the business.

The group’s chief strategy officer, Emily Taylor, left in February after three and a half years, while in October last year, chief creative officer, Cam Blackley, also moved on, saying at the time that the agency was going “through a period of transition and that has accelerated the decision to part company”.

The transition meant global restructures, with staff lay offs across the UK and Asia-Pacific regions, including a handful of redundancies in Australia in December.

However in March, M&C Saatchi picked up a big name in former creative director at The Monkeys, Scott Dettrick, as its new joint national executive creative director.
