Melbourne radio ratings: 3AW dominate again, a happy 30th birthday for Gold

Continued lockdowns have again proved prosperous for AM radio in Melbourne, as 3AW has delivered a bumper share, building on a healthy lead at the top of the pile in GfK’s sixth survey of the year.

The station jumped up 3.1 percentage points overall to land on a strong 18.2% share of the market, with flagship breakfast pairing, Russel Howcroft and Ross Stevenson posting their best result of the year, rising a further 3% to a 23.8% share after Nine’s head of content – radio, Greg Byrnes called the pair a ‘powerhouse‘ following the previous recent survey.

ABC Melbourne again proved that AM radio is hanging around, despite a minor dip in share, with Sammy J losing 1.4 points in the breakfast slot to land on 14.6% in a distant second, and the station overall dropping down from 12.4% to 12%.
