Melissa Doyle’s Seven News at 4 debut fails to beat Nine’s Afternoon News
Former Sunrise presenter Melissa Doyle’s first day presenting Seven News At 4 saw her beaten by Nine’s Afternoon News. According to preliminary overnight metro ratings, Doyle’s 4pm debit rated 217,000 metro viewers compared to Nine’s 266,000.
However, the bulletin did beat other shows in the timeslot including Ten’s Totally Wild, which averaged 179,000 viewers.
Meanwhile, Sunrise, now presented by Samantha Armytage and David Koch, saw off Nine’s Today by 405,000 to 325,000 with wins in Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. Today won Melbourne and there was a dead heat in Brisbane.
Doyle stepped down from Sunrise earlier this month amidst speculation about whether she chose to leave the show or was moved on.
Watched Mel Doyle’s 7pm 7Two News last night. It was great. In fact it was better than 6pm. Did I miss it or was there no advertising? Was it a 4pm repeat?
Sorry Mumbrella… is this a story?
I’m no fan of Mel Doyle, but was Mel Doyle’s new 4pm gig even promoted… ie inviting viewers to actively choose her over an alternative? I haven’t seen any marketing push.
Wasn’t it just a case of her being tired of 3am starts… and wanting a job with more family hours? I doubt Channel 7 have high hopes for her 4pm News slot. Just utilising a contracted station asset reading the news… rather than having her file tapes in the library (do they file tapes anymore?)
Hi Richard,
Yes there has been extensive coverage, particularly in the Daily Tele. And the SMH took the relatively unusual step of reviewing the bulletin: http://www.smh.com.au/entertai.....2s7rh.html
Cheers,

OK… I accept that.
Thanks for the clarification Tim.

My pleasure
We do not like the 4.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. news slot it is too long, at that time of day no one has time to sit for an hour & a half & watch news. We preferred the 4.00 p.m. slot for local news & then 6.00 p.m. for other news slot. Sorry Melissa not a good move!
Have just watched 4pm news now on channel 7 with Melissa Doyle & Matt White.
I really enjoyed it, I find that they both appear to get on really well.
I have always enjoyed Mel on the breakfast show, sadly we miss her. But times do change, and she looks like she is enjoying starting later and being able to spend more time with her family. Well done
Can you tell the weatherman that people do exist on the western seaboard of Australia and can we have Perth mentioned in his weather report.
I have always watched Channel 7 late afternoon but when I saw Rebecca had been replaced by Melissa Doyle I changed to Channel 9 and wont be going back to 7 until they get rid of stuck up Melissa. Channel 7 Management you need your head read get rid of Melissa Doyle altogether let her get a real job.
