The move dwarfs other major purchases by Microsoft, such as Skype which it purchased for $8.5bn in 2011, and Nokia which it acquired for $7.6bn in 2013, with Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella telling staff there would be a synergy in LinkedIn’s content and Microsoft’s cloud computing tools.
“This combination will make it possible for new experiences such as a LinkedIn newsfeed that serves up articles based on the project you are working on and Office suggesting an expert to connect with via LinkedIn to help with a task you’re trying to complete,” wrote Nadella.
