Mumbo Report: Hyundai blurs the lines; another shouty Hungry Jack’s ad; and dodgy-looking salesmen
In today’s Mumbo Report from Studio 33:
- Most played ads of the week – seeing double with Hyundai, rapping with Monopoly and another shouty, in your face Hungry Jack’s ad
- Turkey of the week – something for all those unmet moisture absorbency needs

That Shamwow guy recently got jailed for punching a hooker in the face after she tried to bite his tongue off. Apparently.

love the video reports tim, but i think the intro is a long.
…shamwow…its sells itself.

Is there some piece of research out there suggesting blokey blokes & tradies respond more favourably to speech impediments? There’s an ad running on MMM for “Wepco” where you here from a tool turning veteran of 20 years wax lywically about what a gweat tool Wepco is. It sounds like the same guy from the O’bwien but I’m not sure.
Dear WOBERT – Ive check the Triple M add and I think you’ve heard it wrong… It def says REPCO.. so I guess the study should be on selective hearing? 😛
Gee Lana, that was a quick response. The (W)Repco “ad” must be on a high rotation for you to be able to check it so quickly.

“Add an egg, a slice of ham, a pickle…”
It’s called “Aircheck”… And yes – It has great Frequency.. lol
Touche Lana!
But I really do want to know if there’s any research about the lazy use of the letter R
We’ve picked up the “I’m Andrew Temby” radio ad 156 times on metropolitan radio in the last week. I’m not sure you really care, but just thought I’d let you know that aircheck were not the only ones who can do this. Go Xtreme Info!
Cool site – I’ll sign up!
If you liked Vince in “Shamwow” why not try his classic “Slap Chop”?

I have to agree about the intro. Way too long for online.
Yeah I agree- get rid of it or shorten it to 5seconds-
20 seconds of watching Tim wander around some design students idea of a good green screen intro with cool graphics gets a bit annoying after the 3rd time.
Thanks for the feedback on the intro. We created it when the video format was a bit longer last year (generally six to seven mins). But feedback (and the YouTube data) suggested we were losing people before the end, so we edited ruthlessly.
Now it may be time to do the same thing to the intro itself, which will break the hearts of the clever people at Studuio 33 who made it. But I’ll have a chat to them…
Cheers,
Tim
If the vid is 7-8 mins: do a 15sec intro.
5-6: 10 second intro
Under 5 mins- 5 seconds would be fine.
I agree with David, even on first viewing it’s way too padded—the more of these clips I watch, the more it seems you’re shamelessly plugging your own good selves 😉 perhaps a short YouTube version, with a longer HD version for this site, with larger chunks of the ads thrown in is called for.
I really can’t see what Hyundai is trying to convey with their AFX-tweaked ads, certainly they’re not intending to imply anything nasty about their vehicle design, but that might be an unexpected subtext.
as for ‘unmet moisture absorbency needs’, I don’t think you can go wrong with a spare box of Libra Invisibles—am I right, fellas??
