Mumbrellacast: Lisa Ronson in surprise Coles exit, financials, back to work, and Crikey vs Murdoch

This week’s Mumbrellacast sees a full house, with Darren Woolley also joining host, Calum Jaspan to discuss a busy week in the media and marketing industry, with topics including Lisa Ronson exiting Coles, Crikey facing off with Lachlan Murdoch, back to work debates, financials chats on SWM and the holdcos, plus senior hires across the industry.

Lisa Ronson is leaving Coles, around three and a half years after joining the retailer from Tourism Australia, and just weeks after reappointing Omnicom (alongside Deloitte Digital) in her first, and only pitch at the Aussie brand. A quick reaction on this unfolding story, which broke after the initial recording.

It is reporting season, so the team discusses James Warburton’s third full year of results at Seven West Media, which the company called its best since 2011, before later looking at some of the global advertising and communication group’s results, and how they are performing more locally.

Elsewhere, Crikey and Lachlan Murdoch look to be squaring up after it was reported that the latter sent legal threats to the independent outlet after a June article, referencing Murdoch’s role in the 6 January riots at the US Capitol.
